BOOSTER MEETING MINUTES HIGHLIGHTS

April 2024

Regular Monthly Meeting

Jeff Adams called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM

 

Attendees: Tim Keleher, Jeff Adams, Myra Ortega, Linda Collazo, 
Tracey Hofmann, Seth Mirowitz, Jason Gallagher, Jodi Gorenberg

 Approval of minutes from March 2024 meeting.

 

Music Report

Instrumental:

    • Mean Girls

      • Papermill Playhouse (modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards) - submitted entries on Sunday for Rising Star Awards to encourage and reward exceptional accomplishments in the production of New Jersey high school musicals. Expecting to receive nominations next week.

    • Spring concerts

      • Bands concert on 5/1 at 7:30 P.M.

      • Orchestra/Jazz Band on 5/2 at 7:30 P.M.

      • Band Spring concerts were scheduled to accommodate AP students regarding testing. Concerts are in the beginning of May, then AP testing, and preparation for Marching Band music and graduation.

    • Jazz Band

      • Reading Berks Count Jazz Festival on 4/10/24 - Performed in the exhibition with bands from across the region for the Cavalcade of Band Scholastic program. The East Jazz Band received the Best Rhythm Section award, Lukas Ortega received a bass soloist award and Jeremy Raden was awarded a Cavalcade of Bands gold medal for piano solo.

      • Cavalcade of Bands Championship Finals at Arcola Intermediate School in Eagleville, PA on 4/12/24 - The East Jazz Band received the highest rank achievable, Superior with Honors including Alexander Kang received an honorable mention clarinet solo award, Gabe Barrett, drums and Jeremy Raden, piano, were awarded Solo Gold Medals.

    • Lab Band

      • Performed locally

      • Participated at Pennsbury Jazz Festival

    • Marching Band

      • Students were able to vote on a choice of 3 shows.

      • A confirmation from all students who are returning next year is due by June 1st.

      • The use of the custom online forms Jotform instead of Google forms is being explored for marching Band use.

      • Request for non-profit for food at Costco in which provides $50 twice a year.  

    • Symphony Band

      • Music at the Parks at Six Flags on 5/3/24.

    • Symphony Orchestra

      • Competition on 5/3/24 at Council Rock South and is open to the public.

    • Wind Ensemble

      • Invited to perform at the Kennedy Center at the Sousa Band Festival next year in March 2025.

Vocal:

  • Boston Vocal Trip – Boston Heritage Festival

    • Concert Choir won Gold.

    • East Singers won Gold and Second Place in their category as well as have been invited to Carnegie Hall to perform in the future.

    • Chansons were awarded Gold and First Place in their category and were awarded “outstanding choir” which is best in completion across all categories.

    • As a school, East was awarded “Choral Sweepstakes” which gained our students their fourth trophy.

  • Spring Concert

    • Choral concert on 5/23/24 at 7:30 P.M.

Future Events:

  • Spring Concerts

    • 5/1/24 Bands concert

    • 5/2/24 Orchestra/Jazz Band

    • 5/23/24 Choral

    • Table will be provided for music boosters memberships towards next year.

    • Music boosters produce one entire program for all concerts and Myra will coordinate with the teachers to set timelines for the program preparation.

    • Ads and Shout-outs flyers were sent out and deadline is 4/24/24 for the program preparation. We need to sell ads for the program with the option of ½ page, ¼ page, full page, front cover, and back cover and shout outs which the boosters will receive full profit since printing of the programs are covered by the school.

  • Small Ensemble Night

    • Chamber Groups performing on Wednesday, 4/18/24 at 7:30 P.M. in the Little Theater

  • Senior Solo Night

    • 6/6/24 at 7:00 P.M.

    • This concert will be live-streamed.

  • T-Shirt Design Contest

    • All entries must be in by 4/28 to announce and acknowledge the winning student at the Spring Concert with a $50 gift card.

  • 6 Scholarships for Seniors

    • Guidance counselors will inform teachers when it is time to select the seniors and then write the checks.

  • Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month.
